The general nature of boys prevents the boys from being able to sit on the couch in the “normal” way. Nine times out of ten when the boys want to sit on the couch, they have to go over the back or over the side. Of course, after watching them do this for most of her life, Sarah has figured out how to climb a chair and jump over as well.
